In his role with the West Virginia University Health Affairs Institute, Dr. Alam is responsible for working with the state to leverage data and support analytic and policy needs, conducting relevant policy and evaluation research, participating in interdisciplinary research and evaluation teams. His primary focus is the Medicaid Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Outcomes and Recovery Study (MOTOR). In addition, he supports State Opioid Response (SOR) project in survey design, data collection, analysis, and data driven presentations. Dr. Alam also leads the Web Infrastructure for Treatment Services (WITS) data entry team for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources under the SOR grant.   

Dr. Alam fostered his expertise in nicotine dependence and substance addiction to expand his research. He has more than a decade of experience in public health research, including topics like behavioral health; population health; public health pedagogy; program development and implementation; data analyses; grant writing, and scientific publication.
